About the Artist

Lauren Phillips is a contemporary artist based in Charlotte, North Carolina. A South Carolina native, Lauren attended Clemson University and spent more than twenty years as an educator before stepping away in 2020 to focus on family during virtual learning.

What began as a creative outlet soon grew into a passion and a new career. As a self-taught artist, Lauren creates expressive florals and layered landscapes inspired by the beauty of the South. Hydrangeas, dogwoods, magnolias, water lilies, marshes, and expansive Carolina skies frequently find their way into her work. Through loose brushwork, rich layers, texture, and thoughtful details, she strives to capture both the energy and the quiet beauty found in nature.

Lauren’s work is known for its soft, uplifting color palettes and painterly style that feels both timeless and fresh. Her hope is that each painting brings beauty, joy, and a sense of connection to the homes where it is displayed.

Her work can be found in private collections across the country and is available through select galleries, boutiques, and design-focused retailers throughout the Southeast.

Lauren lives in Charlotte with her husband, three children, and English Golden Retriever, Lucy, who faithfully keeps her company in the studio each day.

The Inspiration Behind the Work

Nature is at the heart of my work. I am continually inspired by the beauty found in everyday moments—the way sunlight filters through the clouds, the movement of leaves in the breeze, or the fleeting bloom of a flower.

My paintings are created with expressive brushwork, layered color, and rich texture that capture both the energy and the quiet beauty of the natural world. Many pieces include elements of collage made from dried paint palettes and fragments of earlier works. These unexpected layers add depth and character while reflecting a belief that beauty can often be found in what might otherwise be overlooked.

Whether I am painting a canopy of dogwoods, a vase of hydrangeas, or an expansive Southern landscape, my hope is that each piece brings a sense of joy, wonder, and connection to the spaces where life unfolds every day.
